Accounting Specialist

This position is full time, Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with a pay rate of $21.00/hr.  

Job Summary:
To assist the accounting team, prepare financial reports and maintain the organization’s system of accounting records.

Essential functions

A.Match the supporting documentation to invoices and ensure appropriate approvals have been obtained.

B.Code and enter payables, process check runs and produce accounts payable reports.

C.Monitor check processing email and process void check requests. Print cleared check copies when requested.

D.Prepare the monthly general ledger entries and ensure the accuracy of those entries through the process of reconciliation to supporting documentation.

E.Review fixed asset and depreciation records and reconcile to the general ledger
F.Calculate the monthly adjusting entries for investment activities and prepare the monthly nvestment report.

G.Prepare the internal financial statements on a monthly basis. Prepare requested analysis of the financial operations to assist management in the decision making process.

H.Administer member assessment collection, reporting and reconciliation processes as needed.

I.Assist in the preparation of the annual budget.

J.Gather information for independent auditors to facilitate the completion of the year-endaudit.

K.Responsible for maintaining the outstanding check log and reissuing checks as needed.

L.Issue premium disbursements at the direction of management when a new insolvency occurs. Process uncashed check letters as needed for stale unearned premium checks.

M. Prepare and file regulatory reports for unclaimed property, miscellaneous income recipients (1099) and local/state property tax returns.

N. Process receipts and deposits and maintain cash worksheets.

O. Manage new and existing vendors in accordance within established policy and procedures.

Authority/Decision Making
Make decisions relating to daily general accounting procedures. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and presentation skills
Organized and detailed-oriented with the ability to work independently
 Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Analytical skills for sound problem solving and decision making, supported by fact

Required education and experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a minimum of five years working on an Accounting team Preferred education and experience
General knowledge of insurance industry practices
