Director Life Underwriting
We are working with a top-rated life insurance carrier to help them fill this important opening on the Life Underwriting team. This senior position will handle large face amount (10MM) underwriting, co-signs and audits of other more junior underwriters, special project work and assist with development of guidelines and policies in individual Life Underwriting. This is a non-management role that can lead to senior leadership roles within the organization. (Individual Life, not Group)
Responsibilities include:
- Personally evaluate and underwrite Individual Life Insurance applications up to 10 million
- Cosign on cases for more junior underwriters
- Underwriting audits of the more junior underwriters
- Help to coach and develop life underwriters
- Assist with improvements in process, guidelines and policies in life underwriting
- Attend company training conferences and industry events
- Assist with departmental research into new technologies
- Help to drive special projects and add value as a member of committees
- Assist with the contestable claims process
Requirements include:
- 10-15+ years of Individual Life Underwriting experience
- Experience with large case underwriting (510MM+)
- Proven medical and financial underwriting knowledge
- Strong negotiation skills, able to sell adverse decisions
- Comfortable working with the field and doing training sessions
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Comfortable with systems and technology used in life underwriting
- Proven ability to add value in staff development, projects, process imp, etc.
- Strong preference for Bachelor’s degree
- Strong preference for industry designations (FALU, FLMI, etc.)
